For Mark, entrepreneurship was never just about starting a business. It was about creating freedom, taking control of his future and building something meaningful on his own terms.

Today, Mark's business interests span property development, retail, training and media production through Future Digital Education, but his entrepreneurial journey began long before any formal business plan.

Growing up, Mark was inspired by his father, who ran a construction business. Watching the highs, lows and challenges of building projects gave him an early understanding of what it meant to take risks and create opportunities from nothing. That experience sparked an ambition that would stay with him throughout his life.

"I always wanted to be my own boss," says Mark. "I didn't want to rely on someone else to decide my future.

His drive to succeed was evident from an early age. Between the ages of 10 and 21, he competed in motocross, developing the determination, discipline and resilience that would later become essential in business. At just 22, he launched his first property company, and by the age of 26, he had transformed three derelict terraced houses into a thriving Spar convenience store, becoming one of Wales' youngest off-licence owners.

Mark's entrepreneurial mindset eventually led him into the world of media and film. Building a successful career working with major broadcasters including BBC, ITV, S4C and Netflix, he combined creativity with commercial thinking to establish himself in a highly competitive industry. His work as a cinematographer on the feature film Hope Eternal earned international recognition and contributed to an Oscar nomination for the production.

Drawing on decades of experience across construction, retail, property and media, Mark founded Future Digital Education. The business brings together storytelling, technology and innovation to help develop future talent through digital learning experiences. By blending professional media production with emerging technologies such as AI, video and immersive content, Future Digital Education helps equip the next generation with the skills and confidence they need to succeed.

For Mark, one of the greatest rewards of entrepreneurship is the freedom to shape his own path.

"Being your own boss gives you the opportunity to create the lifestyle you want. You can make decisions, build projects you're passionate about and turn ideas into reality."

Of course, the journey has not always been easy. More than 30 years in business has taught him that freedom comes with responsibility. Cash flow pressures, managing teams and navigating financial challenges are all part of the experience. Rather than seeing these as obstacles, Mark views them as opportunities to learn and grow.

"Every problem has a solution. The key is to stay resilient, keep moving forward and embrace challenges as part of the journey."

His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is simple: back yourself, be prepared to work hard and don't be afraid to take calculated risks. The road to success is rarely straightforward, but with determination, resilience and a willingness to learn, opportunities can come from the most unexpected places.
