Having spent 20 years in a commercial world and 15 years at The Royal Mint, doing lots of travelling to London and overseas, I wanted a change and decided to utilise my experience and offer help to smaller businesses with their journey, offering corporate level support to SMEs.
I’ve always been entrepreneurial in spirit and wanted to run my own business. My Dad started his business in 1968 and still goes in a couple of days a week even now and it’s always been something I wanted to do too.
Mostly it’s been social-based adaptation, of moving from busy roles with teams of people around you to working on my own. Finding ways to socialise and bounce ideas off others when there are no peers.
Selling yourself is also a different challenge to marketing and selling a business or a product and that takes some getting used to. No major problems, though.
Managing your own time. Doing what you want when you want to do it and being in control of your own destiny. I can choose what I want to move forward with, what ideas are worth developing as opposed to being given set tasks and projects and being told when and where I needed to be places.
