Llangynog, Carmarthen
Ellis George Lloyd Thomas is from Llangynog, near Carmarthen, where he is a full-time employee on his family’s 400‑head dairy farm. Having joined the business full-time in early 2026, he has quickly taken on significant responsibility, including calf rearing, total mixed ration feeding and a wide range of day-to-day farm operations, while beginning to contribute to farm decision-making.
A fifth-generation dairy farmer, George combines practical experience with formal agricultural training, having completed an Advanced Technical Diploma in Agriculture at Coleg Sir Gâr, Gelli Aur. His strong work ethic and enthusiasm for learning are evident in both his on-farm responsibilities and his continued involvement in training and skills development.
George has also shown initiative in diversifying the family business, developing a pumpkin enterprise which has grown into a successful visitor attraction, welcoming thousands of visitors each year and raising significant funds for local charities.
An active member of St Clears Young Farmers Club, George values opportunities to learn from others and share ideas within the sector. Looking ahead, he aims to continue building the family farm, exploring diversification opportunities and strengthening the long-term sustainability of the business. Through the Junior Academy, he is keen to broaden his knowledge, develop confidence and learn from successful farming systems across Wales and beyond.
