Lixwm, Flintshire
Jed Gerrard Davies is a 20-year-old farmer from Lixwm, Flintshire, who is an equal partner in his family’s beef and sheep enterprise. He plays a central role in managing the farm, which includes 150 cattle, a herd of Welsh Black suckler cows, and 200 Texel cross sheep, with responsibility for day-to-day decision-making, livestock management and seasonal operations such as lambing, calving and shearing.
Alongside the core farming business, Jed has developed a strong entrepreneurial approach through diversification. He established a seasonal farm business, starting with Christmas tree sales and expanding into pumpkins and a maize maze, combining practical farming with direct sales, marketing and customer engagement.
He has also gained extensive practical experience through relief milking, fencing, shearing and contracting work across multiple farms, including time spent working on dairy farms in Wales and Ireland. In addition, he contributes to the family funeral business, supporting operations and customer service.
A committed member of Young Farmers, Jed is actively involved in competitions and community activities. Looking ahead, he is keen to expand both his livestock enterprise and diversified business. Through the Junior Academy, he aims to build confidence, develop new ideas and strengthen his approach to business growth and innovation.
