The project is currently in the data collection and advice phase. Working with the farmer and industry experts, we are conducting thorough assessments to identify and quantify prevalent pest species on the farm. This includes monitoring insect populations, disease prevalence, and weed infestations across both grassland and arable areas. We are also gathering information on the effectiveness of various cultural, mechanical, and biological control methods that could be implemented at Bugeilus Fawr.

Next Steps:

The next phase of the project will involve a comprehensive review of the growing season in October 2024. This review will assess the impact of any implemented IPM strategies, evaluate their effectiveness, and identify any areas for further improvement.

A successful IPM strategy at Bugeilus Fawr will result in:

  • Improved crop and livestock health by reducing pest, disease, and weed pressure
  • Reduced pesticide use, leading to enhanced ecological health and potential cost savings
  • Increased biodiversity by fostering beneficial insect populations and promoting natural pest control mechanisms
