Selecting a KPI

There are two types of KPIs or Indicators built into the tool, those which align with a specific Sector and those that cover the farm as a whole – these are called Whole Farm KPIs.

Within the Whole Farm KPIs section, there are 3 categories of KPIs:

  • Environmental – including indicators relating to soil health, habitat and woodland.
  • Farm Overview – these are financial KPIs focus on the farm business as a whole.
  • Forage and Grazing – these include various grass production, grazing and maize KPIs

KPIs can be found by clicking on one of the enterprises or one of the Whole Farm KPI sections on the left-hand side. Based on your enterprise setup, relevant KPIs will be displayed for you to choose from.

Last updated – this is the date that the individual KPI was last edited/data added. Every new year, this date will clear back to N/A.

When you are putting data into the KPIs, be mindful to include most recent data that is relevant to the year in question.

Best practise would be to capture the data from the same breeding / production cycle for the calendar year, e.g. if Scanning happens over Dec-25/Jan-26, you would want to capture the results in the year 2026 as it relates to your lambing performance in 2026 as well. If you then scanned in Dec-26, you would want to put the results in the 2027 calendar year for the same reason.

When looking at Farm Overview KPIs (which focus on the financial business performance), it is easiest to take data from the last financial year end accounts (perhaps 31st March) as these will include calculated figures for the full financial year. Using data from year end accounts year-on-year is most beneficial for self-comparison.

Status –KPIs can display in 3 ways:

  • No data – this indicates no data has been entered into the KPI for this Date range.
  • Completed – this indicates data has been entered into the KPI and received results on the back of the data entered. It is possible to view the KPI results and edit the data from the Results page if required.
  • Submitted to SFS – where the KPI has been completed and submitted to RPW for SFS. KPI title only will be shared with RPW - no data. Once submitted, the KPI cannot be edited until the next calendar year.

Actions:

  • Add data – click to add data to the KPI
  • Manage:
    • View – click to view the Results page of the KPI
    • Edit – click to edit the data previously entered into the KPI
    • Submit for SFS – click to Submit the KPI for SFS
  • View – click to view the Results page of the KPI
