Trailer Towing: On Road

Course duration dependent upon experience. Following completion of the course you will undertake an assessment and a certificate will be issued upon successful completion

The expected duration for the course is one day, however this may vary according to factors such as level of experience, modules or attachments selected, or the ratio of instructors to learners.

The course involves a balanced mix of theory and practical sessions.

You will learn the ins and outs of safety and the legal requirements regarding trailers.

Course sessions will include:

  • Legal requirements – towing on-road
  • Weight limitations
  • Types of trailer and hitch – suitability for purpose and limitations of use
  • Causes of accidents
  • Coupling/un-coupling procedures
  • On-road trailer towing
  • Loading – effects on stability/control
  • Vehicle/trailer checks
  • Braking exercise
  • Limitations of braking system
