Event overview

Join us at Cotland Farm, Narberth, for a practical event on the farm with Andre Van Barneveld (Graise Consultancy), focusing on reducing input costs, improving nutrient efficiency and strengthening dairy systems in a challenging market.

This event will look at what really drives financial rates of return from forage and grass based dairy farming – from soil decisions and benchmarking to using data to improve performance – with practical examples you can apply on your own farm.

Attending this event will be recorded and will count as 2 hours towards General Action 4 (Continuous Professional Development - CPD) under the Sustainable Farming Scheme.

What we will discuss:

Soil health, nutrients and fertiliser efficiency (SFS UA1 – Soil Health)

  • The role of soil testing within the Sustainable Farming Plan
  • Using soil analysis To calculate appropriate rates, timing and product selection
  • How nutrient balance supports grass growth, animal performance and the farm system in the long term
  • Explore different types of fertiliser and application methods
  • Practical demonstration showing ways to reduce losses and improve nutrient absorption in dairy systems

Using data to get the most from your inputs (SFS UA3 – Benchmarking)

  • Tryphena Williams from Farming Connect will show how benchmarking data can be used not only for scheme compliance, but to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability on the farm.
  • A practical overview of FARMDATA+, the free benchmarking tool available through Farming Connect to help you meet SFS benchmarking requirements and monitor returns from feed and fertiliser inputs
