Event overview
Join us at Ty Coch, Llangynhafal for a practical on farm event with Andre Van Barneveld (Graise Consultancy), focused on reducing input costs, improving nutrient efficiency and strengthening the resilience of dairy systems in a challenging market.
This event will look at what really drives returns from grass based dairy farming – from soil and fertiliser decisions to using data to improve performance – with practical examples you can apply on your own farm.
Attendance at this event will be recorded and will count as 2.5 hours towards Universal Action 4 (Continuous Professional Development - CPD) under the Sustainable Farming Scheme.
What we’ll cover
Soils, nutrients and fertiliser efficiency (SFS UA1 – Soil Health)
- The role of soil testing within the Sustainable Farming Scheme
- Using soil analysis to set appropriate fertiliser rates, timing and product choice
- How better nutrient balance supports grass growth, animal performance and farm resilience
- Exploring different fertiliser types and application approaches
Practical demonstrations showing ways to reduce losses and improve nutrient uptake in dairy systems
Using data to get the most from your inputs (SFS UA3 – Benchmarking)
- Tryphena Williams from Farming Connect will demonstrate how benchmarking data can be used not just for scheme compliance, but to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability on farm.
- A practical overview of FARMDATA+, the free benchmarking tool available through Farming Connect to help you meet the SFS benchmarking requirement and monitor returns from feed and fertiliser inputs
