Key areas you wish to focus on as a demonstration farmer?
To improve grass quality through rotational grazing: we are growing more grass as a result of grazing sheep and cattle on a rotational system and we now want to focus on the quality of that grass to allow us to finish more lambs before the autumn and to reduce our reliance on purchased feeds in the cattle enterprise.
To consider income streams from woodland: we have planted trees and created a lot of hedges through grant schemes and would like to consider options for those woodlands.
To investigate opportunities to capitalise on carbon capture: carbon capture could one day become a farm assurance requirement so if we could include this on our labelling it could help us to add value.
Pentre Farm Facts
“We can’t expect things to stay the same in farming going forward, we have to think outside the box and that can come from learning from others. I am looking forward to hearing the honest opinions of people who will come to our open days and to learning from that experience.’’
