This online postgraduate module runs for 3 months, starting in May. Participants should either hold a first degree or have at least 2 years relevant experience in agriculture. The course can be taken as stand alone CPD or can be built towards a postgraduate qualification.
An introduction and overview of livestock production systems
The focus of this module is on how to increase the efficiency of both intensive and extensive livestock production systems. It draws upon research within IBERS and elsewhere and will cover topics including: the growth and development of livestock, parasitology, reproductive technologies, precision livestock farming technologies, disease epidemiology and livestock performance and welfare.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module participants will be able to:
- Identify the components of livestock production systems and demonstrate an understanding of the relationships between them.
- Review and evaluate scientific literature and apply the results to the development of livestock production systems.
- Explain how research can be used to increase the efficiency of livestock.
