The aim of Menter Gorllewin Sir Gâr’s Profi programme is to assist young people to improve the skills that they will need as they enter the world of work, whilst also demonstrating how Welsh language skills can be of advantage to them in their career.

The new www.Profi.cymru website has been created with appealing digital content to help young people become more aware of their individual skills and strengths as they begin to apply for employment opportunities, and encourage them to live a fulfilling life as valued members of society.

The Profi scheme is supported by the National Lottery Community Fund together with Carmarthenshire Council's LEADER Plan European Fund through the Welsh Government's Rural Communities programme - Wales Rural Development Program 2014-2020, funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.

As well as creating an interactive website, the additional LEADER funding has enabled us to develop an interactive skills quiz and create five short films and a series of podcasts. The intention is to educate young people about the opportunities available within our communities and then encourage them to consider remaining or moving back to the area following a period at college or university.

According to Meinir Evans, Project Co-ordinator of the Profi scheme: 'Since everyone's skills are different, we have created an interactive resource that will help young people to identify the strengths and the skills they need to improve as they seek to join the world of work. We are very proud of the fact that we have been able to create an innovative resource, as this is the only interactive skills quiz that we are aware of in the Welsh language.'

The results of the quiz will inspire young people to find suitable jobs and note their skills and qualities on their CV, application form and elaborate on during interviews. We will also support young people to understand that not everyone is good at every skill and encourage them to nurture and develop the skills they need for a career of their choice, as well as encourage them to take advantage of their Welsh language skills when applying for jobs.

There is a podcast series and short films to accompany the website in order to showcase the opportunities and skills needed for key sectors as identified by the South West Wales Regional Learning and Skills Partnership. The sectors that are showcased in the short films and podcasts are as follows: Construction, Food and Agriculture; Health and Care; Manufacturing and Engineering; Creative & Digital Industries; Public Services and the Third sector.

By listening to the Pod Profi series and watching the films, young people will be able to receive advice on the skills they need and what steps they need to follow to lead to an exciting career within Carmarthenshire thereby influencing them to consider staying, or returning to develop a career within the County.

People can listen to the advice in the podcasts on the www.profi.cymru website, or through Pod Profi (spreaker.com)
