Antimicrobial resistance or AMR is considered to be one of the greatest global threats to human health. In 2019, AMR infections were directly responsible for 1.27 million global deaths and contributed to 4.95 million. This is projected to rise to 40 million by 2050. Medical development cannot keep pace with this threat; no new antibiotic classes have been developed since 1980.
