Heol Senni, Brecon
Abigail Jones is an 18-year-old from Heol Senni, Brecon, who has recently completed A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and the Welsh Baccalaureate at Ysgol Gymraeg Ystalyfera. She combines strong academic achievement with practical farming experience gained on her family’s mixed livestock and arable farm, where she works with Limousin cattle, arable crops and manages her own flock of Texel cross mule sheep.
Alongside her studies, Abigail has gained a breadth of experience across the agricultural and veterinary sectors, including work at Honddu Vets and participation in a veterinary summer school at Aberystwyth University. She also works part-time at the Welsh International Rarebit Centre, developing strong customer service and communication skills.
A committed member of the Young Farmers, Abigail has held several leadership roles and has a particular interest in public speaking and stock judging. Her involvement in international and research-based activities, including a biology expedition to Zanzibar, has further developed her interest in biodiversity, conservation and sustainable food systems.
Having secured a place to study Biology at university, Abigail aims to combine science and agriculture to support a sustainable and resilient future for Welsh farming. Through the Junior Academy, she is keen to expand her knowledge, explore different farming systems and develop ideas that she can apply both academically and within the agricultural sector.
