SMART Innovation is a unique programme lead by the Welsh Government and funded by EU money with the single aim of helping Welsh businesses do better by being more innovative.

Innovation is a big word – it’s used too often by too many and let’s be honest, it can be a bit vague. But at Welsh Government, we’re less about the talk and more about the reality: better productivity which increases profitability by doing things differently and we know we can help.

Take a look at our five years stats from 2015-2020 and you’ll see that we’re serious.

• We’ve poured £150 million investment into research and development projects 
• More than 1,700 projects have got off the ground with our help
• …And we’ve been pivotal in creating more than 350 businesses and academic collaborations leveraging £30 million from industry.

And there’s still money in the pot to do more of the same, which is good news for anyone wanting to tap into a better way of working and this includes those making efforts to decarbonise their operations.
