Farming Connect is offering new, fully funded training workshops to help Welsh livestock keepers tackle animal health and welfare challenges. These workshops are delivered by local vet practices across Wales.
The training modules are developed by The National Animal Disease Information Service (NADIS) and approved by Lantra Awards, ensuring high-quality, relevant content. All workshop topics align with the current Welsh Government Animal Health and Welfare priorities.
This workshop provides comprehensive training for smallholders. The workshop will provide understanding of animal health and welfare for smallholders, covering their legal responsibilities and the Five Freedoms of animal welfare. Participants will learn the importance of biosecurity, including practical measures, and gain knowledge of zoonotic and notifiable diseases. Additionally, it offers species-specific details for poultry, pigs, goats, and alpacas, focusing on nutrition, housing, common diseases, and routine procedures.
The workshop will also emphasize the significance of responsible medicine use. For specific species like poultry, pigs, goats, and alpacas, attendees will explore the pros and cons of keeping each, alongside detailed advice on feeding, housing, husbandry, routine procedures, common infectious diseases, and specific health issues.
Workshop attendance will be logged on the attendee's 'Storfa Sgiliau' CPD record along with a Lantra Awards 'certificate of attendance'.
The training workshops are fully funded but to qualify for that funding all attendees must be meet the registration eligility criteria and be registered with Farming Connect prior to attending a workshop. Each attendee will also be required to complete a Personal Development Plan (PDP).
