This project is researching new ways to add value to lower-quality wool, including as an insulation material, the potential for it as a natural and eco-friendly substance for pest control (instead of borax), and the potential to mitigate the environmental impacts of nitrates entering water courses through the retention effects of fleece fibres. The production viability of these materials is considered in a local context, by testing and trialling products with a view to exploring the potential for setting-up a local supply chain and creating commercial opportunities for farmers.
