Processing the Welsh Egg

Currently, W L Hamer operate a  32,000  free  range  unit  on  farm  and are  now  erecting  a further 32,000 free range egg unit on farm in order to capitalise on the high demand for free range welsh eggs which saw production within in the UK decrease in the first part of 2019 and to ensure retention of contracts by gaining economies of scale.

An IPPC Permit from Natural Resources Wales has been successfully granted. Faced with a need to process eggs to a high standard with limited losses, the project would install a state-of-the-art egg processing facility. The facility would comprise of a building/unit accommodating a high specification processing line consisting of a curve egg conveyer, underground conveyor allowing movement of eggs, chilled egg storage and equipment to move egg pallets, all operated with the aid of solar power on a three phase grid connection with battery storage. Utilising specialist egg processing equipment will ensure market demands are met, enabling a profit margin that will facilitate future expansion. Increasing the sustainability and financial resilience of the family business in this way is imperative to the future employment, longevity and succession within the family business.
