Upland Arboretum

Coed Cymru as the lead partner in a group of interested parties including Tir Coed, Aberystwyth University (IBERS) and Pentir Pumlumon applied for funding from Cynnal y Cardi to commission a feasibility study to look at the potential of cross-sector working to develop forestry, farming, tourism and community resilience in the Hafod region.

This was an innovative project bringing together organisations from across the woodland and environmental sector in Ceredigion to promote, develop and revitalise the land around the Hafod Arch near Devils Bridge, out towards Cwmystwyth and Pwllpeiran Upland Research Centre, with the aim of making positive change to the social, economic and environmental resilience of the area, linking environmental and social agendas in the uplands.

The consultant appointed, Catalys Ltd, was tasked with speaking to each of the project partners, engaging with new partners if necessary and collating these ideas into one cohesive report with an outline budget for any future works.

Catalys Ltd also investigated different partnership governance models that might be required to take the project forward and collate relevant case studies/research papers for the project. The feasibility study outlined funding programmes applicable to the project and set out a clear governance model to enable the partnership to move forward and fundraise for project delivery. It is envisaged that this feasibility study will support further funding bids in order to research into funding opportunities as well as income generation.
