Village Hall Energy Make Over

The basic premise of this proposal is to select an energy deficient rural village hall and assist hall management with the securing of capital funding to improve its energy efficiency to achieve a reduction in running costs with improved comfort and higher utilisation thereby providing a better asset for the local community. The project is as much about sharing the learning as it is the technology and it is anticipated the refurbished hall would provide a demonstration building to encourage other halls to do the same or similar. Potential capital funding will be sought through the Rural Community Development Fund, Community Facilities Programme, Carbon Trust, community solar farm or other. The opportunity will be promoted by way of an open call to all community buildings within The Vale of Usk. In addition to providing support to assist the selected buildings management committee in the acquisition of capital grant funding they will also be provided with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and possibly an electric vehicle charging point. As way of incentive to other halls, up to four runner up buildings will be selected and these will also benefit from an EPC together with a limited amount of capital funding to implement an energy saving measure such as the installation of LED lighting.
