As part of the on-going campaign by recently launched action group, Plastic-Free Beaumaris, a special event is to be held to call on locals to take action to reduce plastic pollution.

Gwen Evans Jones, from the group will chair the event. She will be joined by guest speakers Dr Rob Elias, Director of the Biocomposites Centre at Bangor University; Sian Sykes from Surfers Against Sewage; and Sioned Thomas of Menter Môn.

Speaking about the event, Gwen said:

“I would like to encourage local businesses and residents to attend our evening on the 12th of November at Y Ganolfan in Beaumaris. Everyone is welcome – it will be a fantastic opportunity to learn how we can all make changes to how we use and dispose of plastics. We have reached a crucial time – and we must act now if we want to make a difference, protect our marine life and reduce plastic pollution.

“We are delighted to welcome Rob Elias as one of our speakers – he will be talking about the latest developments in alternative materials to plastics, and highlighting ways businesses can reduce single use plastic.”

The campaign in Beaumaris was launched in October and four businesses have already signed-up, they include Mercado; Jackfruit; Canolfan Hamdden Beaumaris; and Happy Valley Café. The hope is that this event will encourage more to get involved.

Sioned Thomas of Menter Môn, added:

“We are pleased to be part of the Plastic-free Beaumaris campaign and hope that local residents and companies will join us at this special event on the 12th. Thanks to increased awareness and publicity we all understand the damage that single use plastics are causing to our marine wildlife – it’s a huge concern and is up to all of us to make a change. As an organisation we aim to tackle challenges that face our communities, and this project does exactly this.”

The event will be held at y Ganolfan, Beaumaris on Tuesday 12th of November at 17:30. Please contact Heulwen Williams for further information Heluwen@madryn.co.uk.

LEADER projects aim to identify and pilot innovative responses to the challenges faced by rural communities. Results and successes from this project will be shared beyond Beaumaris so that communities across Anglesey can also benefit.
