Aberkenfig Community Hall

The villages of Aberkenfig and Tondu currently have no community or wellbeing centre, with only a Parish Hall and community meeting room being present in Tondu. Both communities have a growing population, which will be further increased by the addition of 500 homes set to be constructed at the Pentre Felin development in Tondu, with no community building or facilities to be included in the scheme. The building is managed and run by a charity which has insufficient funds to make the changes and improvements that are desperately needed to allow the hall to continue providing valuable services and facilities to the community.

Aberkenfig Welfare Hall is a fantastic community building in the centre of Aberkenfig.  It has amble parking and a large hall that is used for community events and activities. The Welfare Hall is the only building that offers spaces for use by the local community, however, within recent years the hall’s use has decreased due to disrepair and inability to provide further services to the area.  The Aberkenfig Welfare Association would like to apply for funding to do the renovation and refurbishment of the building and also extend the existing facilities.

The Association does not know how much this would cost and doesn’t have detailed designs to inform their funding applications. The Thriving Rural Communities Fund is funding an Architect to undertake the surveys needed to plan the renovation work and produce detailed costings and plans for this work.
