Amplify: Trowch e Lan

Mess UpThe Mess (MUTM) a local theatre company secured funding to run a creative based Youth Events Project, called “Amplify: Trowch e Lan”.

Working in partnership with Pontardawe Arts Centre and its Friends of Group, MUTM will deliver a comprehensive series of activities targeted to engage and recruit local young people.

Once on board, young people will play a key role in creating, managing, delivering and participating in the project’s youth led events.

The Amplify: Trowch e Lan project will offer young people a range of opportunities to experience, participate and determine what creative activities are provided for themselves and their peers through the project.

A drop – in tech zone will be established at the Arts Centre as a safe space where young people can meet, hang out and use technology. Supervised by the project’s part-time Youth Worker young people will be  shown how to keep themselves safe on line and be able to take part in sessions with participatory artist such as DJ’s, graffiti artists and performance poets.

The Police and the local Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP) have shown interest in this aspect of the project as a diversionary activity and CAP have provided some matching funding towards project costs.

Informal short courses in technical and other skills (sound, lighting, film, event planning and marketing) will be run and these will provide the young people with the skills to deliver their own youth led events programme. These sessions will be facilitated by experienced industry professionals and supported by project staff.

In order to deliver a truly youth led events programme young people will be recruited to form a youth led events group. The group will be supported to undertake research, plan, manage and promote and deliver 6 events for young audiences over the lifetime of the project.

Participants will be encouraged to gain more experience in the creative arts through volunteering at the Arts Centre. Opportunities for volunteering will be identified in backstage and front of house roles and these will be promoted to participants.

Run in partnership with the Friends group a Youth Forum for Pontardawe Arts Centre will be established which will provide an ongoing means for young people to be involved in decision making and provide a channel through which young people can support the Centre.
