Ogmore Heritage Trail and Heritage Hub

Reach with the Ogmore Valley Local History Society, Nantymoel Boys and Girls Club and the Boys and Girls Clubs Wales, worked together to develop the Ogmore Heritage Trail and Heritage Hub project to ensure the history and heritage of the valley was preserved and showcased.  The aims of the project were to:

  • Promote history and heritage by establishing a Heritage Hub with display, information and artwork in the newly Renovated Nantymoel B&G Club
  • Promote the history and heritage of the valley to residents and visitors by using the existing walking and cycling community route through the valley by installing heritage information boards along the route.
  • Promote other amenities and business in the valley through an audio trail via QR codes on the heritage boards which give additional information regarding the surrounding area eg walking and cycling routes, toilets, café’s, camping etc
  • Promote health and wellbeing through encouraging walking and cycling on the Heritage Trail
  • Provide cycling facilities at the Nantymoel B&G Club to encourage cyclists to visit the Heritage Hub based in the building
  • Provide a range of information, activities and training to the young people from the B&G Club and local residents to upskill and enhance their history and heritage knowledge and enable them to promote the project
  • Produce a plan based on consultation with the residents for the site of the former miners Berwyn Centre which was demolished due to structural faults

A stakeholder steering group was established to oversee the project consisting of relevant members from public, private and third sector
