Mike Morgan

Mike has spent all of his working life in the hospitality sector. After educating at the King’s School Worcester and De Montfort University, he was asked to join the fast track graduate training scheme for Holiday Inns Europe, which eventually led to a first General Management post at the age of 23.  This was followed by work within Crowne Plaza, Quality Hotels, Trust House Forte and Hilton.

His career included managing large hotels in Europe and the UK through until 1996 when he returned to Wales.  Mike acquired Llansantffraed Court Hotel, near Abergavenny and turned it around to become a thriving four star country house with a critically acclaimed AA two rosette award-winning restaurant, employing 35 local people.  The hotel won a number of awards and accolades over the following 23 years and was sold in December 2019 in order for Mike to focus on other business commitments.

He has served as the Chairman of Adventa, Monmouthshire’s Leader group working in the key areas of Food, Tourism and Timber, was a main Board Director of the Abergavenny Food Festival, and spent 8 years as a Governor and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Coleg Gwent, Wales’s largest tertiary college with a £50m turnover.  He is a Visiting Professor to the University of Wales, was a Board Member of the Ministerial Tourism Advisory Board, being one of six tourism industry leaders to have developed the published strategy document for Tourism in Wales called Partnerships for Growth.

Mike and his business partner acquired the operations of the Welsh Rarebits Collection, the country’s premier hospitality marketing consortium, in 2009, with Mike completing the acquisition of all the shares in the business in 2019.  Welsh Rarebits now represents around 300 of the very best hospitality and tourism businesses in Wales.

Mike is currently a main Board Director of the £ 100m development of the International Convention Centre Cymru at the Celtic Manor Resort, and of Historic Hotels of Europe.

Mike has a proven track record in speaking engagements, broadcast media, and presently delivers projects as a business mentor, consultant, advisor, and facilitator to customer facing enterprises.
