Traineeships

All young people deserve the chance to step on the skills ladder and get a taste of the working world. That’s exactly what traineeships aim to achieve with a mix of education, training and work experience.

Image of precision orthodontic team By getting involved you won’t just be helping school-leavers to kick-start their careers. You’ll ensure your own business has its pick of the young talent in your community.

What it's about

Traineeships give young people aged 16-18 the skills they need to get their first job or progress to further training. They’re very flexible. But mainly include work preparation training, English and Maths - for those who need it – and high quality work experience. That’s where you come in.

How it works

You design a programme that’s right for you and your trainee. Together with a training provider you’ll plan when they start, the days they come in for work experience and how the training is delivered. And you can adjust things as you go.

The length of the traineeship varies depending on the individual learner. We'll support all trainees by giving them a training allowance.

At the end of their traineeship, if you’re impressed, you might well offer them an apprenticeship or other job opportunity. Otherwise a reference will help them find work with another employer.

Who is eligible

Businesses of any size, in any sector, as long as they’re based in Wales. You also need to be able to provide a substantial and meaningful workplace experience.

What’s in it for you
