SMARTInnovation support for businesses returning to work

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak the Welsh Government has announced almost £2bn of support for businesses in Wales, in addition to the support provided by the UK government.

This is an incredibly difficult time for the whole of the Welsh economy, the support that Government is providing is designed to support as many businesses as possible through the outbreak.

SMARTInnovation support is available to help businesses manufacturing products in all sectors through their recovery. SMARTInnovation will provide assistance to plan and implement changes to incorporate reasonable measures that ensure safe working practices that comply with Welsh Government legislation and guidance within the workplace.

Experts will work with you to identify opportunities to deliver safe working environments, employing innovative methodologies to maintain, and potentially improve productivity.

Actions to improve business environments and products can include:

  • Confidential COVID-19 Risk Assessment
  • Innovative workplace organisation including process configuration and layouts
     
  • New and innovative manufacturing techniques and technologies
  • Assessment of required PPE and cleaning regimes
  • Optimisation of personnel on site through workplace scheduling, logistics, and control of material deliveries
     
  • Collaborative approach with employees to plan changes
  • Safety in communal areas such as car parking, food, locker and toilet facilities
     
  • Safe working techniques for staff training
     
  • Product design changes including materials, design for manufacture, packaging, and eco-design which may be considered because of supply chain difficulties
     
  • Supplier identification where businesses have been struggling to source components and materials

SMART Productivity support is free to businesses in Wales, provided by the Welsh Government and is supported by EU funds.

Experts will work with you, free of charge, to plan and help you implement the productivity and design improvements needed.
