Our blog series talking to businesses we've helped and provided support to continues with a focus on Wrexham-based Pinnacle Harnesses.

The company was founded by Phill Harry, who has more than 33 years in different roles in the fast-moving goods electronics industry – including engineering and purchasing. Phill decided to go it alone and started Pinnacle Harnesses Ltd early in 2019.

Here, Phill Harry shares what he's learned as his business has evolved and found a footing in its sector.

Tell us about Pinnacle Harnesses.
We started trading on March 1, 2019. We provide bespoke electrical wire harness solutions. We have a very customer-focused business model, which we believe will give our business strong foundations for success.

With a network of UK, European and Asian suppliers and customers, we were able to hit the ground running as soon as we started. The first two months of trading presented multiple challenges, which meant I was very much working "in the business" from the start. It was a hectic start and the needs for seasonal equipment required for the Easter holiday period delayed our work "on the business". As well as that, I was fully committed to the Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme (AGP), which meant long days and weekend working to meet all of my obligations. But it's all been worth it.

What are your proudest moments in business so far?
I'm immensely proud of having the support of long-standing customers and suppliers who identify with me and have total trust in my ability to support their business needs.

If you were starting again, what would you do differently?
In an ideal world, I would have prepared all my business systems, website and so forth before launching – but I needed to be true to my core value of providing outstanding customer service from day one. So actually, I probably wouldn't change a thing as it really gave me the focus I needed – and luckily, I had the support from family and friends during this challenging period, including support from people at the Business Wales Wrexham Enterprise Hub.

How has support from Business Wales AGP helped your business?
I signed up to the Business Wales AGP at the Business Wales Wrexham Enterprise Hub – a 12-week fully funded programme designed to help entrepreneurs develop their businesses by attending workshops covering all aspects of Business and Finance.

I'm looking forward to developing Pinnacle Harnesses further with the support of Business Wales AGP which will help us scale up the business with a view of starting manufacturing and warehousing in the near future.
