SPPOT

Woman and dog

Supporting people and pets through opportunities and training

  • Mission: To reduce the social isolation of elderly, disabled and vulnerable people through the provision of quality dog welfare and training services.

  • Secured £68,000 of finance to help train more volunteers

  • 16 volunteer dog walkers and sitters trained within year one

SPPOT is a unique venture in Pembrokeshire which provides accredited training opportunities and clear pathways to employment in the voluntary sector for people who are furthest from the job market. The grants and income generated from dog training courses has given SPPOT the platform to become a successful and self-sustaining community interest company.

“Social Business Wales funded Barry Shires MBE to be our business mentor. He supported us in applying for funding to the Rank Foundation, which resulted in a £68,000 grant over three years for core funding. We have also had invaluable support from Nia Marshall at Landsker in volunteer management and setting up our first employment contracts.”
