Welsh health tech specialist Concentric Health is revolutionising how patients and clinicians make treatment decisions by addressing the inefficiencies of paper-based consent processes. Its digital consent platform simplifies the process, reduces legal risks, and empowers shared decision-making.

With support from the Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme (BWAGP), Concentric has refined its vision, expanded market access, and prepared for global growth.

Dr Patrick Hart, Clinical Product Owner at Concentric, shares the inspiration behind the business, his challenges, and the vital role BWAGP has played in its success.

Concentric Health

Tell us about Concentric Health.
Concentric Health began with a mission to make healthcare decisions more informed, collaborative, and patient-focused. Traditional paper consent processes are inefficient and exclude patients from meaningful participation in their care. To address these issues, we created a digital platform that makes consent more straightforward and can be easily integrated into clinical workflows.

Our system, led by clinicians and backed by evidence, offers templates for over 2,500 procedures - five times the amount our nearest competitor offers. The platform integrates seamlessly with electronic health records, allowing single sign-on access and automatic document syncing.

Theresa Richardson at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust described it as "the Apple equivalent of digital consent solutions."

How has BWAGP and Welsh Government support contributed to your growth?
The support of the Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme and the Welsh Government has been vital to Concentric's success. During the early stages, the programme provided mentorship, including guidance on navigating NHS complexities and preparing for negotiations with key clients. This support opened significant market opportunities for us.

Since launching in 2020, the platform has been adopted by over 40 NHS Trusts, including Imperial College Healthcare and Oxford University Hospitals, and private providers like Circle Health Group. More than 750,000 patients use Concentric annually to manage their healthcare decisions.

A Welsh Government grant during the COVID-19 pandemic allowed us to develop remote consent functionality, which has become essential. As we expand internationally, BWAGP continues to guide us towards market research and support for entering the Australasian market through their Welsh Government expert colleagues. This has included Welsh Government funding to attend Australia’s leading digital health festival in 2025.

BWAGP has also supported our leadership team with bespoke coaching so we can effectively navigate growth. Their input has been transformative, helping us at every stage of our journey.

How does Concentric address the problems of traditional consent processes?
Traditional paper-based consent is inefficient and legally risky. Many consent forms are completed on the day of treatment, leaving patients little time to consider their options. Digital consent solves this by enabling compliance with legal standards like the Montgomery judgement, which stresses clear and personalised communication. NHS Trusts estimate a 50% reduction in legal risks with digital consent.

Digital consent improves shared decision-making. While only 28% of patients report gold-standard shared decision-making with paper consent, this rises to 72% with digital consent. Hospitals like Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust also report a 5-10% reduction in surgery delays and cancellations.

What has been your proudest moment so far?
We are proud of Concentric's impact. Over 750,000 patients use the platform annually, improving outcomes and experiences across the UK and beyond. Clinicians have also reported significant improvements in workflow and patient engagement.

Hearing feedback from empowered patients and clinicians who find their work easier reminds us why we do this. Our positive impact on the healthcare system and the patient experience drives us forward.

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?

  1. Focus on solving a problem you’re passionate about — it will sustain you through challenges.
  2. Play to your strengths and work with a team that complements them.
  3. Prioritise user feedback to refine your product and processes.
  4. Recognise that success is a journey — find fulfilment in the process, not just the outcome.
