Welsh Government Food Division (Lead Partner), cross-government partners Welsh Government - Innovation Health, Education, Procurement, Welsh Local Government Association, Innovate UK, Innovation Strategy were honoured alongside the Welsh procurement community’s finest recently at the Government Opportunities (GO) Excellence in Public Procurement Awards Wales 2020, held on 19 June.
The GO Awards Wales recognise public sector procurement excellence, celebrate the role private and third sector organisations play in supporting the delivery of public services and, for the past four years, have been the benchmark by which progress in public sector commissioning has been measured in this country.
The GO Awards Wales were originally scheduled to be held in March: however, the COVID-19 pandemic saw the event organisers – BiP Solutions – take the bold step of creating an entirely online ceremony, to enable the great work of procurement practitioners in Wales still to be recognised.
Mark Roscrow MBE, Lead Judge for the GO Awards Wales, said:
“Over the past few months, procurement has never been more in the spotlight – thelevels of procurement and its importance to the NHS has never been more at the fore front of people’s minds.
The pressure on procurement colleagues across many sectors has been unprecedented and on behalf of BiP Solutions and the judges its gives me great pleasure to thank everybody for the huge amount of work that has gone on over the past few months and for the months ahead of us, for the challenges that will still be with us”.
This year’s winners included some of the country’s leading procurement innovators, including organisations such as the DVLA, Welsh Government, NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership and Lyreco UK Ltd, Elite Paper Solutions Ltd, National Procurement Service, Better Jobs Closer to Home Welsh Government Food Division (Lead Partner), cross-government partners Welsh Government - Innovation Health, Education, Procurement, Welsh Local Government Association, Innovate UK,Innovation Strategy, this year’s recipient of the Procurement Innovation of the Year - Taking the Procurement Function Forward Award, said of their win:
Absolutely over the moon. It has been a magnificent project to be involved with, the success of which is really down to collaboration and teamwork – team Wales’ approach to it – without which we wouldn’t be able to deliver.
