Vaayu was the brainchild of three experienced aerospace managers who felt there was an opportunity globally to provide airlines and manufacturers with cost effective certified aircraft engine materials and LRUs, backed by a proactive and professional logistical support for all parts supplied. The directors began working in a small south Wales valleys office in 2016, with next to no investment. Through their enthusiasm, passion and hard work, they have grown the business turnover to almost £10 Million and have created 10 high quality jobs. Projects have been undertaken for major airlines and aerospace companies in USA, Japan, Netherlands and the Middle East.

What would they do differently?

In hindsight the directors would have:

  • Accessed greater support and expertise via UK Trade Finance
  • Exhibited at USA America rather than use the desk facility provided at the show by the Welsh Government.

Their proudest moment in business

  • Hitting sales and profitability targets/plan for the first time which ensured initial success and reinforced the directors’ belief in the potential opportunity they’d identified

  • Having been in business for two years where the first year was extremely stressful and having now established a great team offering a multi-faceted range of products and services to a number of satisfied clients.

Although the company has clear policies in relation to the use of the Welsh language internally and externally, its use is very limited when dealing with global clients.

•    The Accelerated Growth Programme (AGP) has helped business development significantly, by initially helping diagnose and clarify its vision and strategy and specifically providing coaching support to help develop the company’s branding and the establishment of a professional website
•    Internal Trade Directorate has helped the company have a presence at key international trade shows including MRO London, the Singapore Air Show and MRO Orlando USA. Plans are in place to seek additional help to participate in forthcoming shows in Amsterdam and Dubai.
•    During the last two years the company has employed 10 people and achieved export sales in excess of £4Million.

The Managing Director’s top tips:

•    Differentiate yourselves from everyone else in the market. Identify your Unique Selling Point (USP) and focus on it passionately and enthusiastically
•    Focus on quality and service delivery rather than sales. If you deliver what you promise consistently sales and profits will follow
•    Build your reputation for excellent customer service and focus on exceeding every customer’s expectations every time you deal with them.
