How Rescape Innovation is developing technology to help patients in need of relief

In the latest in our new blog series, we talk to another business we have been working with to find out more about their journey, ambitions and top tips for business success. Rescape Innovation develops immersive technology experiences to be used in the healthcare sector – these experiences include distraction therapy, therapy, relaxation and breathing exercises.

Here, commercial director Glen Hapgood shares his experiences on his business journey so far.


Tell us about Rescape Innovation
Rescape Innovation was formed out of Orchard Media and Events Group. At Orchard, we developed long-standing relationships with local health boards, hospitals and clinicians. We developed a number of virtual reality solutions and found a gap in the market developing off-the-shelf technology for patients.

Rescape Innovation was formed out of Orchard as a new company and our three products – DRVR, DRVR+ and DRVR Jr. – were born.

We have been in contact with over 150 clinicians and health boards, trialling, selling and integrating our VR distraction therapy.



What are your proudest moments in business so far?
Our proudest moment is the mountain of positive feedback we receive and how our product is having a very positive effect on patients – especially those in palliative care.

We are making a massive difference to these patients’ health and well-being while they are going through a really distressing time.


If you were starting again, what would you do differently?
We would evaluate the sales process sooner and understand the procurement and market readiness of each health board to integrate our solutions.


How has support from Business Wales AGP helped your business?
Business Wales AGP support was provided to help Rescape to access funding and protect our intellectual property so we could trade.

It also allowed us to establish a sales infrastructure which will scale as we grow. And on sales, Business Wales AGP helped us identify the best direct sales process to support revenue goals.

Importantly, we were given support to define our social media profile as well as looking at search engine optimisation (SEO) to give us a visible presence online.


What advice and guidance would you give other businesses starting out?

  • Understand your marketplace – the customers and companies who inhabit the space you want to enter.
  • Focus on the challenges faced by the industry you are targeting and ensure your product or service can support your customers overcome their challenges.
  • Make as many connections as possible and seek advice and feedback from prospective customers.
  • Understand your price point and sales strategy.
  • You will experience some obstacles and challenges so surround yourself with positive and honest people to support you.
