Find out how Brynglas Equine used social media advice from Superfast Business Wales to expand its client base, reach new markets and grow the business by 20%.

My name is Anne-Marie Marek and I run a company called Brynglas Equine – and we train horses and humans. Mostly humans, to get them to work with the horses in a really nice way. People that are likely to come and use us here range from children right up through to adults, people with their own horses that might have problems, and also what we can do is take people that don’t have any horses or anything else like that and teach them to either work with horses or use them in a therapeutic way.

The Superfast Business Wales course gave me a routine to using all of my social media better. It looked at all the types of social media that were there and how you can bring them to produce a really good strategy for your business.

The marketing that I mainly did was through Facebook and occasional adverts and things like that. I found out that the advertising didn’t really work. Since having done the course, I am using social media a lot more, so things like Instagram and Twitter, definitely using those, and looking at developing all the other forms of social media that there are.

What I’ve been able to do is to develop the use of Hootsuite to bring the social media feeds together and to really use Facebook in a much better way – and at the moment I am looking at what I can do and whether I want to run ads and things like that on Facebook – just trying to develop how I’m actually marketing the business even further.

Since having done the course, I’ve certainly seen an increase in Facebook usage and the traffic through Facebook. Certain posts that I’ve done have certainly generated direct work for me from that, with new clients and I’m really looking at how the Instagram and Twitter is really developing through those mediums as well.

Since I’ve been on the course, I have seen what I would say is a conservative 20 per cent increase in the business coming through to me. It’s resulted in new clients which are then on going so it’s obviously broadened my client base, which has really helped from that point of view.

The areas I’d really like to go into are the therapy side of it, and the work that we can do with armed forces veterans and people with PTSD, and maybe mental health issues. That’s an area where I can certainly see things like Facebook and that helping me reach out to those areas and those potential niche customers and develop the business from there.

The Superfast Business Wales course was incredibly good. I’ve been on a number of courses prior to that, that have taught me how to use/set up Facebook or the social media side of it, but what this course really did was bring together all of those feeds in a really good cohesive way that I could actually then use – and it’s certainly been the most beneficial one that I’ve been on so far.

I certainly recommend this course to other people.
