Life sciences is a complex area, in fact it’s a series of areas. Comprising microbiology, zoology and a great deal else, it’s no surprise that research happening within one discipline that could help another is not always readily communicated. Organisations inevitably work in silos in which information is not easily shared.

This is changing. There is an option to move to a world of structured, shared knowledge bases as the structures behind the Internet itself are replaced. Technology now offered to professionals has the ability to record and add information in the field as easily as in the office or lab, and to eliminate duplicated databases and unnecessarily repeated processes.
