Severn: Water Integration Management Project (SWIM)

We will work with local communities to find natural solutions to flooding and water quality issues. This will improve the natural resource of an area by reducing the impacts of flooding on small communities and work to improve the potential for environmental tourism to an area. This could be through improved access or better angling provision (through open fishing beats and SRTs angling passport scheme).

This will provide a sustainable solution to issues around water management in small catchments within the Severn Uplands (Montgomeryshire). Through an environmental services mapping study undertaken in 2014/15 and through discussions with NRW and Powys Council flooding departments we will identify and ground truth catchments and communities, hold discussions with communities and identify suitable locations for practical works alongside the community (funded through other means).

We will work with local businesses to look for compatible solutions that will work towards a Payment for Ecosystem Services provision surrounding natural flood management.
