The steps being taken by a Welsh upland farm to reduce its environmental impact will be shared with farmers during a Farming Connect live broadcast this month.
The Farming Connect Demo Farm Live event on 16 September will take viewers to Dolygarn, Llanbadarn Fynydd, Llandrindod Wells, where beef and sheep producer James Powell will speak about the project work he is involved in as a Farming Connect demonstration site farmer.
By working to understand the symbiosis between plant life, soil life and animal life, James hopes to improve soils to help the farm increase the amount of winter fodder grown.
He has been working with grassland and forage expert Charlie Morgan on alternative winter cropping options that will help him mitigate the risk of soil and nutrient loss and the impact on water quality and future farm productivity.
Mr Morgan will be a speaker at the event and there will also be advice on improving natural resources from Bridie Whittle, of the Wye and Usk Foundation, as well as market and project updates from Hybu Cig Cymru.
