Youth Tourism and Activity Markets

Project Description:

The aim of this project is to support activity providers and attractions to develop new or improved school visits and family attractions. This would consist of advice on the following subjects: 

•    Marketing  
•    Creating resources and developing activities 
•    Safe, legal, appropriate offers 
•    Costing/business planning 
•    Maximising ‘up sell’.

What will the project achieve?

The project will work with various businesses and organisations to research and test School Groups/Children’s Parties/Youth Tourism/Activity market and to ultimately create a number of resources. How to... 

•    Market to school/family groups 
•    create resource packs which target specific curriculum objectives 
•    create a rewarding and enjoyable visits 
•    create a safe, legal, appropriate and attractive place to visit. 
•    cost a visit in line with market rates and profit margins 
•    market to children’s parties 
•    maximise the ‘up-sell’ so that they return with their families.

What were the results of the project?  

The project is currently ongoing but the following results have been achieved, an event to meet potential participant and desk research.  A number of ‘peer to peer’ learning opportunities were offered in which many people participated, attending and contributing to existing school visits and learning best practice.
What’s next for the project?

A toolkit is currently under development to collate all the learning from the project including ‘how to incorporate the curriculum’, ‘offering safe and engaging visits’, and ‘how to market your offer’. A portal on the Visit the Vale website is also under development, which will collate all the school visit opportunities in one place and offer itineraries for visiting multiple locations.
