Common Landscape

The Cadw designated Historic Landscape of Gelligaer and Merthyr Common is a unique ecosystem providing important economic, social and environmental ‘value’ to the rural communities that surround and rely on it. However the landscape is under threat primarily due to a high level of anti-social behaviour including fly-tipping, littering, off-road vehicles and environmental damage. This Co-operation pilot project will be led by the Gelligaer and Merthyr Commoners Association (GMCA), Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council (MTCBC), Caerphilly County Borough Council (CCBC), Natural Resources Wales, Keep Wales Tidy and other partners and will trial an SMNR approach accross the landscape area.
