Menter Bro Dinefwr - Living Welsh - Priority Areas and Leadership Academy

This project looks at the Welsh Language Standards for Carmarthenshire County Council and aims to tackle the Promotion Strategys main vision in the long term to make the Welsh language the countys main language. One of the five objectives under this vision is to target specific geographic areas within the county, either because they offer the potential to develop or because they cause linguistic concern to increase the numbers of residents in those areas who can and do use Welsh.

From looking at the 2011 census the areas of Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthen, Llanfihangel-ar-Arth, Llandeilo, Llandovery, Amman Valley, Upper Gwendraeth and Lower Gwendraeth were selected by the Strategic Forum as areas which has linguistic challenges and potential for increase. This project will appoint 3 full time officers working in the areas of the 3 Mentrau to facilitate the project in the priority areas. The second part of the project will see the applicant undertake a Community Leaders Academy for young people between the ages of 16-30. The aim of the scheme is to train young people to become prospective community leaders by giving them the relevant skills needed.
