Pembrokeshire Historical Society - Digitisation

The Journal indexing project is aimed at making the historical research embodied in our annual Journal more accessible to historians, schools and the interested public. This would be achieved by visitors to our website being able to search the Journals using keywords and tags to find the subject, place or person they are interested in. Currently, historians can only consult a Contents index for each Journal i.e. by title of the article, but this is a very far cry from a proper index and in comparison of far less value.

Aims:

1. Make the contents of the Journals easily accessible to all the categories of users named above.
2. Promote the Journal and thus attract a flow of high quality contributions. The index will guarantee that any contributors work will remain permanently available to readers and not disappear into obscurity.
3. Create a strong identity for the Society via the website to attract more members.
4. Provide links through the website to other local history groups and research bodies such as the National Library of Wales, the Royal Commission, the County Archives and others.
5. Enable applications for membership to be made via the website.
6. Enable the Society to produce information leaflets about the index and its activities for distribution in suitable locations.
7. Bring the Society into contact with a broad spectrum of potential members and disseminate knowledge and awareness of Pembrokeshires heritage to a wide audience.
8. Offer the facility to local authors and other local societies who may wish to share the digital indexing facility for their own work.
