Llyr has been fully engaged in planning process and HAS SECURED planning consent to erect a 16,000 free range egg unit on farm in order to capitalise on the high demand for free range welsh eggs which saw production within in the UK decrease in 2019 and as a result of Covid19 increase in 2020 with the increase in the consumer demands to secure food produced locally. The farm business has concluded it needs to diversify to provide a future for the family farm. The unit HAS SECURED a formal contract from the egg collector.

Faced with a need to process eggs to a high standard with limited losses, they are proposing to install a state-of-the-art egg processing facility. The facility would comprise of a building/unit accommodating a high specification processing line consisting of a curve egg conveyer, packer, stacker, palletising robot and chilled egg storage and equipment to move egg pallets, all operated with the aid of solar power, hydro power and ground source heat pumps and a grid connection. The unit is installing in air scrubbers into the poultry unit to reduce the impacts from the development, the scrubber will clean all of the emanating air before it reaches the environment resulting in no impact on protected sites and ecology.

Utilising specialist egg processing equipment will ensure market demands are met, enabling a profit margin that will facilitate future expansion. Increasing the sustainability and financial resilience of the family business in this way is imperative to the future employment, longevity and succession within the family business.
