Visitors to Holyhead Festival between the 25th to the 28th of July will see a new form of transport with the launch of the Landy Flyer.

A Menter Môn project, The Landy will run daily during the festival from 10.00am to 4.00pm starting from the Maritime Museum on Newry beach it will travel down the lower road passing the Marina and on to Breakwater Park. It will then return to the Museum and continue through the town centre via St Cybi and back to Newry.

Thanks to the LEADER programme Anglesey based social enterprise, Menter Môn is piloting this unique event to explore ways of linking attractions and businesses in Holyhead with a view to showcasing what Holy Island has to offer.

Wishing the project well Albert Owen, MP for Ynys Môn said:

“Good luck to all those involved with the Land Rover land train. I look forward to seeing it makes its  debut at the Holyhead Festival weekend.  It will be a great way to show off Holy Island’s wonderful tourist attractions, passing by the historic Roman walled fortress at St Cybi’s Church, the Maritime Museum on Newry Beach and finally a view of Britain’s longest breakwater and Holyhead's Industrial Heritage as it reaches the Breakwater Park.”

Alun Roberts of Holyhead Business Forum added:

“I welcome this initiative as it gives locals and visitors an opportunity to experience the true nature of Holyhead. There is so much to see and do in the area and the Landy Flyer is a great way for children and adults to explore the surroundings on this unique attraction.”

Trevor Lloyd Hughes, Councillor for Holyhead said:

“The Land Train venture in Holyhead is a fantastic opportunity for residents and visitors to see different parts of Holyhead and the surrounding area. This venture during the Festival weekend and a further 4 days in August if successful could involve a permanent Land Train in Holyhead and Anglesey.  With 40 cruise ships coming to the port of Holyhead it is important for the town that we try and keep the passengers within the Holyhead area. I am looking forward to seeing this venture become a success.”

Jackie Lewis  of Menter Môn:

“It’s a real pleasure to be part of this exciting pilot and we look forward to working with the group in Holyhead on future possibilities and developing the project further”
