Gerallt service vending machine

Over the last six months our Local Produce Vending Machine has been supplying local produce for visitors as Nant y Big Campsite on the Llyn Peninsula. With tasty produce such as bacon from Oinc Oink, milk from Llaethdy Llyn and apple juice from Pant Du, none of the delicacies have travelled far! Cakes such as bara brith and welsh cakes were very popular as was milk and eggs.

The purpose of this project was to trial a direct retail model which will give producers the opportunity to sell to their customers directly in an innovative, cost-efficient and reliable way. The vending machine was placed in the campsite to begin with because there is no nearby shop and therefore visitors usually brought food with them. It was also an opportunity for visitors to try local produce and to take tasty Welsh treats home with them as gifts.

Over the next six months the vending machine will be placed in a community. We want local people to benefit from it too, and in an area where there is no nearby shop. Rhys Gwilym, Senior Project Officer at AGW explains “Many villages in Gwynedd have lost their little corner shop, which means some people have to travel far to their nearest shop. By placing the Local Produce Vending Machine in a community, they will have convenient access to produce such as milk, eggs, bacon and sausages, and all of it locally produced!”

The importance of shopping locally is at the forefront of many of our minds nowadays. This project doesn’t only give you the opportunity to do so, but could even make it easier than popping to your local supermarket!

This project has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government. It’s also part funded by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and Gwynedd Council.
