Sheep and lamb

Have you got an interest in wool? Do you work with wool? Are you a wool producer? Do you knit?  Whatever your involvement, we want you to be involved.

The Welsh Government, through the Wales Rural network have an exciting new discussion group about wool, textiles, their uses and the welsh supply chain.

The sustainable management of natural resources is a core priority for the Welsh Government. Welsh Government  have pledged that more British wool will be considered for insulation in public buildings. Wales' Rural Affairs Minister Lesley Griffiths said:

"I am pleased to say the Welsh Government's own facilities management team has committed to consider the more widespread use of wool in our estate in future, subject to the required compliance testing and certification."

The aim of the Discussion Group is to build on existing networks and build new partnerships to  stimulate new ideas and encourage collaboration to  develop and strengthen welsh wool supply chains ;  adding value and reducing waste will be a key feature.

Following the Minister’s recent announcement on Wales Rural Development programme funds, there will be an opportunity to apply for funds to support one off capital items through the Rural Business Investment Fund and further funds to develop collaborative actions to strengthen supply chains through the Co-operation & Supply Chain Development Scheme.

Further details on both of these schemes are to be announced shortly.
