As the Wales Year of Adventure 2016 gets underway Food and Drink Wales in partnership with Visit Wales have organised an event to showcase the best of Welsh food and drink – a celebration of the country as an adventure destination.
On Tuesday, 2 February ‘An Adventurous Food Offering’ event takes place at the Glasdir Centre in Llanrwst from 11am until 2pm. The event is an opportunity for anyone involved in the tourism, leisure, hospitality and retail industry in Wales to come together and help develop new and innovative food and drink ideas.
Commenting on this partnership Deputy Minister for Farming and Food, Rebecca Evans said, “We are delighted to work with Visit Wales in bringing together this regional trade event. There is an excellent array of producers in Wales delivering first class, award winning produce. Increasing the visibility of local and regional foods in shops and on menus offers immediate and direct benefits to our local economy.
“Food is an integral part of the tourism offer in Wales. There is a strong and growing demand for local food and drink. By working together we can increase the number of world-class food destinations and promote and deliver quality Welsh food and drink as part of the overall visitor experience.”
A range of food and drink producers will be attending the event from local meat producers, dairy suppliers, delicatessens, confectionery and sauces to a number of other food services and support for the food tourism and hospitality sector.
One North Wales company in attendance is Beri Da, a small family run business in Talysarn, Caernarfon, who produce Areonia berry sauces, chutneys and vinegars. Vicky Williams-Griffiths commented, “We are looking forward to attending this event. It gives us a fantastic platform and opportunity to showcase our products, discuss face to face with retailers and introduce potential new buyers to our company.”
The Welsh Culinary Team with chefs from Coleg Llandrillo will be cooking up a selection of dishes using produce from across north Wales to come up with high energy breakfast ideas, lunch on the go, and afternoon boost ideas.
