Glyn Arthur Project Update - November 2023
Blood Testing for Fluke Resistance (10/10/23): Initial blood tests were conducted to assess the prevalence of fluke resistance within the flock, providing valuable insights for targeted treatment and management strategies. Blood and faeces samples on untreated sheep revealed no evidence of liver fluke infection or exposure. This farm has never had liver fluke diagnosed and liver fluke treatments have not been used before. As such, the sheep are currently believed to be unexposed to liver fluke. Biosecurity protocols will be important in keeping infection out. Annual monitoring could be used to check whether the flock remains free of infection.
Forage Analysis (02/11/23): A thorough analysis of haylage was performed to determine its nutritional content and inform feeding decisions, ensuring optimal nutrition for the ewes.
