Focus Site Project: Calf decision tree and new calf housing design
The Parc y Morfa calf project will look to develop a calf ‘decision tree’ which will guide farmers through a step-by-step process for when calf health isn’t what it should be and when it isn’t easy to identify the cause of ill-health.
The project will explore a range of monitoring techniques for detecting illness early, as well as key management protocols. The ‘decision tree’ will also touch on housing requirements and provide ideas of what might be needed if a new building is being considered.

- To develop a flow diagram of questions you need to consider before starting on a new building for calves
- To develop protocols to prevent incidents of ill-health in calves
