National Assembly for Wales approves legislation for a ban on microbeads

A ban on plastic microbeads in ‘rinse-off’ personal care products will come into force in Wales from 30 June.

The ban will make it an offence to manufacture or supply any rinse-off personal care products which contain the microbeads. A microbead is a water-insoluble solid plastic particle of up to 5mm in size, too small to be filtered out in sewage treatment systems. Implementation guidance for the WNMP published

We’ve now published the Implementation Guidance. This guides the practical application of the Welsh National Marine Plan (WNMP).

It provides more detail on WNMP policies to help ensure effective and consistent implementation. It provides information on requirements that apply, governance, other legislation and definitions of terms used within the WNMP. It also provides specific guidance relevant to each WNMP policy. Catch recording and inshore vessel monitoring system: Important information

A change to vessel licence conditions was formally introduced on 28 February 2020.

This change requires all licenced under 10m fishing vessel owners to record their catch for each fishing trip. Catch recording in Wales – ready to record from 00:01hrs 28 February 2020

From 00:01 hrs on 28 February, catch recording requirements will be introduced in Wales via a fishing vessel licence condition. 

Three quarters of the UK’s active small scale fishing fleet have so far signed up for the Service and over 5,000 catches have already been recorded. Hong Kong’s the plaice for Seafood Trade Mission

On Monday, five Welsh companies will join a Welsh Government Trade Mission to Hong Kong to showcase the best of Welsh seafood at the Seafood Expo Asia 2018.

The trade mission is supported by the Seafood Market Development project, which recently received over £1 million from the Welsh Government and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund.
