Elen Williams

Denbighshire

Elen Williams is the Farming Connect development officer for Denbighshire.

Brought up on a beef and sheep farm near Denbigh which has been in her family for three generations, Elen still regularly helps out with their herd of Limousin suckler cattle which are sold as stores and a flock of Texel cross and mule ewes finished on-farm or sold at local markets.

After school, Elen attended Northop College where she obtained her National Diploma in animal management.  For the next ten years, she worked full time as an auctioneer’s clerk at a local livestock market before joining Menter a Busnes to work for Farming Connect.

“There is so much support and guidance available through Farming Connect, and there has never been a more important time to ensure your business is performing at its best by taking advantage of all the services and special projects available.”

“These range from fully-funded management exchange visits overseas to soil sampling and from advice on succession planning and farm safety to ‘Measure to Manage’, Farming Connects popular benchmarking programme.

“No two days are ever the same, but I really enjoy the challenge of signposting farmers in my area towards the package of services which can help them meet both their personal and business objectives.”

Elen is a regular visitor to St. Asaph and Ruthin marts and hopes that local farmers will contact her.

“All Farming Connect services are either fully subsidised or funded by up to 80% and it makes sense for all businesses to tap into this support to ensure they are operating as efficiently as they can across all areas in this economically challenging climate.

Elen manages discussion groups for sheep, beef and dairy farmers, which she says provide a perfect forum for farmers to explore new ideas and meet other like-minded farmers.
